Development of Retail, Urban Regeneration, and Heritage

Aim of the workshop is to discuss the results of the program Technical Cooperation and to hear key issues first hand from those involved in retail and urban development. The emphasis of the event was on the discussion between a panel of experts and the audience, aiming at synergies between modern retail development and local economies/civil society in the specific Lviv context.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is involved in financing modern real estate infrastructure in support of the region’s economic expansion and diversification. Its activities in the property sector are intended to build an efficient platform for enterprises and municipalities. The EBRD has recently approved the Multi Development Forum Lviv large-scale retail development project and is developing similar urban regeneration projects in historic cities of Central and Eastern Europe and the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region.

Through its Technical Cooperation (TC) facility, EBRD has commissioned a review of large retail development in historic centres, and collected a series of case studies reflecting a range of contemporary issues and strategies to address them, together with analysis of the implications for the historic cities. Integral to this review is an opportunity to engage with key stakeholders.
