We invite you to a urban seminar by Iryna Spodenets, a specialist in the field of museum and monument studies, where she will present materials for her forthcoming article "Wall Newspapers of the Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology as a Source for the History of Everyday Life (Second Half of the 1940s - 1980s)."

During the seminar, the researcher will examine the potential of wall newspapers of the leading center of physical science in Ukraine, the National Science Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology", with the prospect of using this type of source for research on the history of everyday life, and will review the peculiarities of the textual and artistic content of the wall newspapers of the KhIPT.

The proposed topic of the seminar is aimed at discussing a significant array of sources (about 100 items) that have not yet been published and scientifically interpreted, with the aim of their further introduction into scientific circulation.

Iryna Spodenets

The National Science Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology" of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

She received her PhD in Cultural Studies (in 2017). She is the head of the Museum Sector of the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Her career involves cultural heritage management, the creation of new forms of museum communication, and the development and implementation of revitalization projects.

During her residency at the Center for Urban History, supported by the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) she is studying the newly discovered wall newspapers of the second half of the 1940s and 1980s from the KhIPT.

This seminar will be held in a workshop format. Researchers are invited to discuss scholarly projects, research at various stages of development, and completed research that is being prepared for publication.
