This seminar is devoted to the article by Ivanna Cherchovych, which aims to explore the issue of social boundaries as experiences of active interaction between social groups of different status and opportunities in Galicia at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, from the perspective of women working in the field of domestic service.
The researcher focuses on how women from working-class backgrounds shaped their own better future, what role their active labor mobility and experience played in this process, and the economic, political, and cultural landscape of the time in which they lived: with its ideas of social justice and women's emancipation, actively created labor unions and practices of professional self-organization, rapidly politicized national movements and their local contexts.
