We invite you to an urban history seminar by Julia Elena Grieder, a PhD candidate and historian specializing in Late Soviet History, where she will present her current research project, "Defying Soviet Assimilation: Non-Titular Minorities in Post-Stalinist Transcarpathia and Lviv."

In this seminar, Julia will focus on Jewish and Polish minorities in post-war Lviv. She will explore how these minorities, rendered nearly invisible by Soviet assimilation policies, navigated their realities. The presentation will address the differing treatment of minority groups, with particular emphasis on the unique local dynamics in Lviv. It will also shed light on their lived experiences, their individual and collective responses to discriminatory policies, and the spaces where their forms of organization were still possible—based largely on sources representing the official stance of the Party and state.

The seminar will be conducted in English.
