June 2022 — April 2024

In June, the Center for Urban History and the Department of Historic Environment Protection began cooperation on digitizing the archive of reconstruction and restoration projects of architectural objects in Lviv.

The archive consists of more than eight hundred files organized by address. They contain draft and working projects of restoration and reconstruction of buildings that were or were not implemented. The files contain pre-project studies: architectural measurements, materials on certification and inventory of monuments, photographic records, studies of paintings and stained-glass windows, etc. The variety of these materials, in particular the presence of photographs, records and drawings of various sizes, required the search for optimal digitization methods.

The materials were created in 1970-1990 mainly by the order of the Lviv State Historical and Architectural Reserve, and were performed mainly by the Ukrainian Special Scientific and Restoration Institute "Ukrzakhidproektrestavratsiia."

These materials allow us to explore how the architectural heritage was understood and how it was adapted to modern use in the second half of the XX century.

The project is supported by ALIPH (International alliance for the protection of heritage in conflict areas).
