On November 21-24, the 56th conference of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies took place in Boston (USA).

This year's theme was Liberation. Through this lens, researchers from different disciplines looked at different forms of marginalization or silencing that may have been invisible before, and promote more just, non-stereotypical, equity-oriented, inclusive discussions and research. The four days were filled with hundreds of academic panels, roundtables, continuous conversations, discussions, and most importantly, meetings. Four of our colleagues joined the conference to present their research and join the discussions and meetings.

Dr. Sofia Dyak presented the paper "Classifying, Comparing, Connecting: The Postwar Urban Matrix of Soviet Ukraine" at the panel "Elements for the Future: Materials and Practices of Post-WWII Reconstructions" together with Adam Przywara, Katherine Zubovich, Christina Crawford, and Eve Blau. Sofia also moderated a panel on infrastructures of liberation ("Infrastructures of Liberation: resistance, reconstruction and de-occupation in the Ukrainian commons").

Dr. Vladyslava Moskalets presented her research "'Like a Dark Yarmulka on the Head of the City': WWI Traces in Post-War Jewish Travelogues from Galicia" as part of the panel "Official Narratives and Repressed Voices on the Disputed Territory of Habsburg Galicia in the Interwar Period," which was joined by Jagoda Wierzejska, Martin Rhode, Kamil Ruszala, Keely Stauter-Haulsted, and Fabian Bauman with presentations and discussions.

Maryana Mazurak, Deputy Director of the Center, and Dr. Ivanna Cherchovych, Head of Educational Projects at the Center, also joined the conversations, discussions, and meetings. It was also a pleasure to hear presentations by the Center's affiliated researchers, Dr. Mayhill Fowler and Dr. Oksana Dudko, and to meet colleagues with whom we are implementing joint projects and planning the next ones.
