10th UNESCO summer school for the preservation of cultural heritage

The jubilee 10th UNESCO summer school, which took place in the Polish city of Zamość, came to Lviv for two days.

In the conference room of the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe, the summer school's lecturers and participants haded the opportunity to hear lessons by Ihor Cherniak (Lviv Polytechnic National University), Roman Motyrycha (Institute "Ukrzahidproyektrestavratsia"), Volodymyr Slobodian (Institute "Ukrzahidproyektrestavratsia"), Liliya Onyshchenko (Lviv City Council), Iris Gleichmann (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit, GTZ) and others.

The authors of the idea and organizers of the summer school for the preservation of cultural heritage were the Polish city of Zamość and the Polish UNESCO committee.

In 2010, 20 young architects and historians from 10 European countries (Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine and Poland) attended.

The participants took part in thematic lessons dedicated to the preservation and restoration of monuments. Practical lessons and master-classes were also planned.

Subjects of the 10^th summer school also focused on the preservation and registration of architectural monuments for a balanced development of a city. The participants became acquainted with the strategy of city development and planning of city spaces.
