International Architecture Summer School "Novyi Lviv"

Novyi Lviv International Architecture Summer School, organized by Center for Urban History and the Moscow School of Architecture (MARCH) was a part of the project "Modernism. Future Continuous."
The participants of the school studied the district New Lviv, in particular the 1920-1930s modernist buildings and residential development of the second half of the twentieth century.
Within four laboratories – "Space," "Sociology," "Heritage," and "Interventions" – school participants looked at the history of the development of Novyi Lviv, analyzed its spatial and social structure, and searched for opportunities to implement simple and fast projects that can provide visible results in the short term. The result of the school’s activity was a project for the restoration and sustainable development of Novyi Lviv.

Chief coordinator of the summer school - Yevhenia Hubkina, an architect, researcher at the Center for Urban History, co-founder of the NGO Urban Forms Center. School coordinators - Oleh Nesterenko, head of the NGO Urban Forms Center, Maryana Kuzemska, director for communications program at the Institute of the City.
The public part of the summer school was the educational project "Days of Modernism at City Hall: architecture, urban vision, heritage," during which school teachers gave lectures and participated in discussions. The main focus of the lecture program was modernism, seen from different perspectives - Western and Soviet, its earlier philosophical and aesthetic value for cities and rethinking modernism in the modern city.
The lecture program "Days of Modernism at City Hall" was very interesting to a wider audience. Visitors took an active part in discussions and debates on the modern city, urban planning, and open spaces.
