"The Child with the Sun in his Pocket" to the 100th Anniversary of Bohdan Ihor Antonych
December 2009 - March 2010
Exhibition Hall, Center for Urban History
Exhibition to the 100th anniversary of Bohdan Ihor Antonych, organized by the Center for the Humanities of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv with the participation of the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe and with the financial support of the City Council of Lviv, continued and crowned the activities connected with Antonych’s works and meetings of the "Eight interpretations of Antonych" series. The major character of the exhibition was the child of Antonych’s works that was interpreted as "the inner child" discovered and revived in ourselves when we sometimes asked about the simplest things and apprehend the world amazedly and unselfishly.
Besides poetry, a special place where one can meet the child was the creative work of Oleh Rybchynsky, a Lviv artist who was thoroughly familiar with the child’s world and had been a shrewd interpreter of Antonych for rather a long time.
Moreover, the voices of Antonych’s predecessors, contemporaries and successors – those he read and translated and mentioned in his records – ring in the discourse on the child whose image we can also find in the photos taken in Lviv at the times of Antonych and his readers. The exhibition consequently offerd an opportunity not only to make new acquaintances, but also to meet old friends – the authors of texts, pictures, images.
