Private photography – public photography

The lecture will address the issue of private and public photography, in terms of the subject, topic and the place of presentation/ publication. Recalling John Berger’s idea of connecting photographs with life stories will allow to discuss the idea of visual narration, that tells us the story of particular persons and their style of living. And the concept of a vernacular photography, described by Clément Chéroux, will let us to think about photos and snapshots that are taken by average people in common situations of everyday – how to analyze them in the context of the tradition of photography and arts.
During the lecture, there will be presentation of contemporary and archive photographs, including photos by Jan Otko whose exhibition "Light in Their Home" is presented at the Center right now.
The lecture will be held in Polish with simultaneous translation into Ukrainian.
