An Incredible Story of Dr. Fleck and His Return to Lviv
September 21, 2019 / 3.00 pm
Rius Hotel (12а Akademika Hnatiuka Street), Philosophy platform
The goal of the discussion is to actualize the legacy of Ludwik Fleck, one of the forefathers of sociology as a science, and a key theoretician epistemiologist of the 20th century. Most of his life is connected with Lviv as a space for his "thought collectives" where he studied, worked, created, but also where he survived the violence and horrors of the Second World War. Translation by Stefania Ptashnyk of his book "Genesis and Development of a Scientific Fact" written in Lviv in the 1930s, first published by the Knyhy 21 publishers in 2019, opens access to Fleck's ideas for Ukrainian readers. We would like to discuss the peculiarities of inter-lingual adaptation of his ideas, and the meaning of the opinions for the city where they developed over 85 years ago.
The event will take place as part of the Philosophy platform at the 26 Book Forum.
