Hippy Fever

The court yard of the Center for Urban History will host yet another show from the series [un]Archiving. This time, we are going to show the yet unknown collection of the color photographs by Hrytsko Porytskyi (Greg) depicting the life of Lviv underground at the turn of the 1970s-1980s, and a series of his artistic works created with a method of multiexposition and overlaying of slides.

Hrytsko Porytskyi is one of the central figures in the Lviv hippy movement. He used to be well known in the counterculture milieu of those times as Greg. In fact, he is utterly unknown today. Greg used to be an unbending freedom lover, a hairy hooligan, an artist, and a traveler. He created multiple photomontage pieces that could enrich any museum collection.

The Greg’s works from the collection of the Urban Media Archive will be presented to the accompaniment of the music by Andriy Manilov, as legendary a figure of Lviv ‘sound collector’ and a friend of Hrytsko Porytskyi.

The event will take place on the occasion of an International Museum Day 2017. Open to the public.

[un]Archiving is the project of informal presentations of sets and collections of the Urban Media Archive to promote and mainstream the problems of archival heritage in the community. We are committed to shape new attitudes on archiving and present historical collections in an unusual perspective. The events from the series include public viewing and listening to visual, audiovisual, or audio pieces that could use a different format from academic settings and create an atmosphere of free reflection and discussion, as well as combine popular formats and archival historical collections. It will be the nights of cine-music or photo-music, film screenings, photo presentations, and other events representing a dialogue of the present day and the past times.
