Urban historians have played and continue to play a significant role in the field of First World War Studies. This lecture considered some of the ways in which urban historians may deepen our comparative understanding of the conflict. In particular, it focused on the dynamics of urban mobilization to show historians of towns and cities can contribute to current attempts at rethinking both the chronology and the geography of the First World War.
The lecture was a part of an international workshop "Urban Experiences of the Great War in Eastern Europe".
