Congress of Association for Slavic, East European, Eurasian Studies

Congress was held of the Association of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) in Lviv. ASEEES was an international association of specialists in the humanities and social sciences from around the world who are interested in Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Starting in 2015 the Association has held an annual Congress in the USA and an annual summer congress in one city of the studied region. In 2016 Lviv has been chosen to host such a Congress, which undoubtedly will be the largest scientific event of the year. This extraordinary scientific event was organized at the Ukrainian Catholic University took place in collaboration with the International Association of Humanities.
Researchers of the Center for Urban History took part in the Congress as participants, disputants at the panels. They also moderated some panels at the Congress. The thematic range of our reports covered the city in World War II, planned Soviet cities, the consumption of tourism and culture during socialist times, Soviet popular culture as a kitschish phenomenon, the institutions and practices of forming a cultural heritage in Ukraine, academic and popular formats of oral history research, and the practice of digitally archiving historical sources .
