Cultural Heritage of Lviv: Awareness for Passing Down
May 20, 2019 / 12.30 pm
Lviv Tourism Office (Ruska Street 20, Lviv)
Cultural heritage of cities on the intersection of different cultures speaks about preservation, support, and recreation; it is rather about making efforts than taking for granted. What does cultural heritage of Lviv look like in the eyes of those in the field – predominantly, those who work in educational, museum, and tourist areas? Which aspects of cultural heritage of the city need more attention in excursion tours and educational programs? Alla Marchenko presents a range of answers to these and other questions on the basis of the focus group and individual interviews in expert circles of Lviv - for teachers, guides, and museum workers.
At the same time, during the event, there will be presentation of results of the mass opinion poll of Lviv inhabitants about its cultural heritage. Which are associations of average citizens with cultural heritage of their cities when it goes about persons, events, or spaces? What provokes admiration, and what relates to contested and ambiguous emotions? During the workshop, there will be a discussion about the key points important both for experts and broader groups, and about the opportunities to meet the needs of the audience and keep the expert approach in schools, museums, and during city tours.
The research work is conducted by the Center for Urban History of East Central Europe in cooperation with the Ukrainian Center for Public Opinion Research "Socioinform" and is a part of the project "ReHerit: Shared Responsibility for Common Heritage" funded by the European Union.
