Cheryomushki

Center hosted an Architectural Film Club initiative – a screening of the musical-comedy "Cherry Town".

Cheryomushki – literally, "Cherry Town" – is Herbert Rappaport’s musical-comedy film adaptation of the Dmytro Dmytrovych Shostakovych operetta "Moscow, Cherry Town". With 28.8 million viewers the film was a box office leader in the USSR in 1963, and explores the idea promoted among the mid-20th century Soviet population of "the Soviet Dream". In the 1950s the dream arrived in the form of shiny new, separate apartment homes in growing settlements, offering a chance at a fresh start, and an end to what went before and all the worries that went with it.

The film was shown in the original Russian language version.
