Historical Memory and Public Space: The Bernardine Monastery Complex

With the goal of strengthening international dialogue, drawing youth people to active participation in the learning process, the preservation and strengthening of universal values of cultural heritage, the international youth organization AIESEC organizes the national project "World Heritage". The project began on October 8, 2012 and will last six weeks.

The first event was a lecture by Andrii Shuliar, researcher at the Center for Urban History, on the theme: "Historical Memory and Public Space: The Bernardine Monastery Complex." "World Heritage" – a cultural-educational project organized by activist youth from ten Ukrainian cities. In the project, participants listen to lectures and visit museums of the various cities, and also carry out research into local cultural heritage, which demands the attention and protection of the community.

Project Goal: To raise the level of knowledge among Ukrainian student youth about cultural monuments and the natural heritage of Ukraine. To form an interest in the younger generation in studying the history of cultural heritage, and a desire to know and value it, and also to encourage activities centered on its preservation.

Participation: Ten Ukrainian cities are involved in the project: Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Odessa, and Sevastopol.

Research Results: Will be published and presented at the international youth forum, which will take place in Kyiv November 16-17, 2012.
