We are pleased to invite you to the presentation of the scientific monograph "The Great War of 1914-1918:  Comprehending the Tragic Experience", which was published this year by Baltija Publishing (Riga, Latvia).

The book presents the issues of the World War of 1914-1918 that are relevant and poorly studied in Ukrainian historiography. The authors offer a variety of topics related to Ukraine's experience during the global conflict, the military and political confrontations between the warring powers, and the history of everyday life, which is increasingly becoming the subject of researchers' attention these days.

With this work, the authors tried to answer the questions that arose as a result of the First World War. Was this global conflict absolutely meaningless from the point of view of the average person? What trends in the study of the First World War dominated in previous decades, and what trends are present today? How far has Ukrainian historiography come in the study of the World War of 1914-1918? And how does the war today affect the comprehension of the lessons of the “distant” global catastrophe?

The scientific school of research on the problems of the First World War was founded at the Faculty of History of Chernivtsi State University in the 1960s and 1970s. The authors of this monograph are: Volodymyr Fisanov, Taras Piatnychuk, Oksana Zvozdetska, Oleksandr Bezarov, Tetiana Minaieva, Andrii Minaiev, Mykola Hlibishchuk, Serhii Kornovenko, Oleksandr Dobrzhanskyi, Mykhailo Chuchko, Anatolii Kruglashov, Oleksandr Reient, Bohdan Yanyshyn, Mikhal Shmihel, Oleksandr Sych, Nataliia Nechaieva-Yuriichuk.
