Orest Bachmaha's film program. Film screening
1.9 - 19.9.2021
Exhibition hall of the Center of Urban History
We invite you to the first program of film screenings within the exhibition "Society with a Movie Camera" commemorating the artist and amateur filmmaker, Orest Bachmaha.
- Colors of summer, beg. 1970s, 13 min
This is the author's first film. It records careful observation of changes in the life cycles of flora and fauna that occur in the garden near his house in Vynnyky. The structure of the film is based on the change of seasons. Accordingly, filming and work lasted all year round. Originally the tape was silent. In 2020, Regina Zheleznyakova (Regina Collage) and Pavlo Olefirenko (Pilikayu) wrote music for it. - My Weekend, 1978, 14 min
Self-portrait film: the author documents himself and his own vision of the world and nature around him, to give the viewer this view, to encourage him to be attentive to what surrounds us.
Depicting the day off, he glorifies not work, but escapism, unity with nature and rest. Documented forest and picturesque landscapes are a hiding place from civilization, the city and, ultimately, from the politics. For the phonogram, the author composed music by composer Jean- Michel Jarre and his own recordings of the sounds of nature, which he made especially for the tape. - It all still exists, mid-1970s, 17 min
Eco-consciousness is not a new trend at all, but today the issue of preserving the environment is even more pertinent for humanity. This film is a manifesto of Orest Bachmaha, who urged for the preservation of nature 50 years ago. The tape is accompanied by recordings of bird singing and music by Jean-Michel Jarre, Enzo Caroli and Antonio Vivaldi, and ends with poetry by Myroslava Kulyk. - The Invisible Man, mid. 1970s, 7 min
Another humorous comedy by the author based on a simple and common film reception with the
disappearance of a man in the frame. The dynamics of the film is set by the escape and persecution of the main characters. It is already characteristic of Orest Bachmaja's works to fit himself into the film, but his hero is distanced from the event and depicted with his dog Pooh above the nonsense happening around. In 2020, the work was voiced by the music of Regina Zheleznyakova (Regina Collage) and Pavel Olefirenko (Pilikayu). - A story that might not have been, the early 1980s, 1 min
An ironic metafilm that ridicules popular movies and soap operas. In the fictional titles, the author hid not only jokes, but also his own name and surname. Moreover, to add pathos, he voiced the work with a fragment from the then significant ballet "The Swan Lake."
The film screening is part of the public program for the exhibition "Society with a Movie Camera" that invites you to look into the world of amateur films and wants to share the history of this phenomenon, to show unique and previously unseen materials. It intends to attract attention and highlight the conversation about the importance of preserving the heritage of film amateurs.
