Soborna Square is situated between Halytska Square and Ivana Franka, and Volodymyra Vynnychenka streets. Construction in the square began in the early nineteenth century, when stone houses began to be built in the area, once occupied by the southern fortifications of the Bernardine Monastery, which were demolished by the Austrian authorities. In the 1960s, a green area by the western side of the former monastery, was incorporated into the square, after the demolition of the fortification wall in Serbska and Valova streets. In May 1880, horse-drawn trams began running through Soborna, proceeding to Mytna Square, while from December 30, 1908, these began to be replaced by electric trams. The following year, electric trams began taking the turn through Bernardynska Square to Pańska St. (now Ivana Franka). In 2003 the portion of the tram tracks from the side of Halytska Sq. was disassembled, and a circle was constructed, to create the final station for tram No. 3, enabling them to turn.
